Josephine Sindani portrait

Josephine Sindani is a construction executive, entrepreneur, speaker and community leader whose experience spans hands-on trades, design, contracting, business leadership and workforce development.

Born in Sudan and raised between Nairobi and Canada, Josephine’s early life was shaped by resilience, family and responsibility. As a teenager, she helped care for her younger brothers while her mother pursued a Master’s degree. Today, as a mother of two, parenting remains central to how she approaches leadership, opportunity and the future she wants to help create for the next generation.

Her journey has not been linear. Josephine has experienced significant personal and professional setbacks, including a period of homelessness while rebuilding her life and raising her family. Those experiences changed the way she thinks about housing, stability and what having a safe place to call home can mean for a family.

Her path into construction was equally unconventional. As an African immigrant, woman and mother entering a male-dominated industry, she built her career through education, hands-on experience and persistence. She progressed from subcontracting and design into lead contracting, project management and entrepreneurship, eventually managing more than 120 homes across Ontario and leading significant construction and renovation projects.

Today, as Founder and CEO of JS Group, Josephine’s work is increasingly focused on the connection between housing, skilled trades, workforce development and economic mobility. One of her long-term missions is to help create and preserve affordable housing so that more young people, working families and communities can access homes they can realistically afford.

She is also the founder of BETN — the Black Enterprise & Trades Network, created to connect education, employers, real work experience and pathways into the skilled trades. Supporting that vision is TradeBridge, a developing digital workforce platform designed to better connect workers, employers, mentors, training and construction opportunities.

Giving back is not separate from Josephine’s business journey. Her work includes youth mentorship, school engagement, food-security initiatives, workforce development and community-based projects locally and internationally.

Her belief is simple: building is about more than structures. It is about creating stability, opportunity and stronger communities — and making sure the knowledge and opportunities we gain are passed forward.
